Bihar Government Removes Khagaria SP Bhanu Pratap Singh Amid Wife’s Harassment Complaint
Bihar removes Khagaria SP Bhanu Pratap Singh amid a harassment complaint filed by his wife Pooja Singh. The dispute involves allegations of harassment and access to their six-year-old daughter.
As part of the administrative reshuffle, Shailendra Singh, who was serving as the Superintendent of Police of Sheohar, has been appointed as the new Khagaria SP. Mohibullah Ansari has been appointed as the new SP of Sheohar.
Bhanu Pratap Singh has been facing allegations from his wife, Pooja Singh, who approached the Mahila Police Station in Patna late Monday night and accused her husband and in-laws of harassment. She also alleged that Bhanu Pratap Singh was preventing her from meeting or speaking to their six-year-old daughter.
Police confirmed receiving her complaint but clarified that no First Information Report (FIR) had been registered so far, as the matter was under investigation.
Bihar Secretariat official Anu Kumari said, "We have received the complaint, but no FIR has been lodged so far. The matter is under investigation."
A few days before filing the police complaint, Pooja Singh had staged a protest outside the Chief Minister's residence in Patna, seeking intervention in the dispute. During the protest, she maintained that she did not want a divorce and hoped to rebuild her relationship with her husband and daughter.
Speaking to reporters, Pooja Singh said she married Bhanu Pratap Singh in 2016, when he was preparing for the civil services and was unemployed. Bhanu Pratap Singh is a 2021-batch IPS officer.
She subsequently approached the police headquarters in Patna to register her objections over the dispute. Pooja Singh also expressed her willingness to withdraw the police complaint if her husband agreed to resolve the matter.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government's decision to remove Bhanu Pratap Singh from the Khagaria SP post and call him to the police headquarters comes amid the ongoing allegations and investigation into the marital dispute.
